A couple of persons said Solar power generators are costly because of it equipments. How about the wind power generators ? I residing a km near sea shore an there would be some wind at most times.
I am in South India and I need to know the total cost for setting up a wind generator for my home in order to cut down my electricity bill. A set up that can power at least 4 Fans, 4 tube lights (40W) and a computer.
Starting from $ 700, Wind Power Generator has a versatility of uses. The wind turbines below are used worldwide for battery charging, home power, and water pumping applications, and range from 400 to 65,000 watts.
Wind Turbines start producing power at 7.5 mph wind speed, and increase their output through 45 mph winds. Higher wind speeds require the blades to be slowed down, to protect the equipment, but are very effective in wind speeds between 7.5 and 45 mph.
We want to generate electricity.
What are you trying to do? Heat water? A House? Generate electricity? Heat a swimming pool?
We need more information.
Whatever it is you are doing, try going to www.motherearthnews.com.
When it comes to Solar panels, they have covered it. Every type and for every purpose.
Plus they will have links to dozens of other sites on the subject.
but cant aford the thousands of dollars it cost. We have tried to save for over 5 years and still cant afford to do it. we are just to poor. I know there are such things in the north-east, because that is were the polotitions live, but is there anything in the south central, or anything federal the help anywere in the usa.
Why not build a windmill ? This can be done for less than $1k.

i have to do this stupid project on energy sources and i chose wind power!
probably medieval holland. they built windmills to drive pumps to drain and maintain water levels; as much of holland has a high water table.
Using low-end, i.e. cheap, solar panels, based on existing technology, how much energy can be generated by adding solar panels to the total length of the Alaskan Pipeline? And if possible, how does that compare with the energy of the oil being pumped through the pipe. Not sure what the light cycle is along the pipe.
Probably very little, it’s at such a high latitude. Anchorage gets way less than half the annual sunlight that LA does, for example:
http://www.solarpanelsplus.com/solar-insolation-levels/
The trans-Alaska pipeline is about 800 miles long. Let’s assume you could fit 1.5 metres wide of panels all along the pipeline, and the efficiency of these panels is 10% (First Solar CdTe are the cheapest, and 8-10% efficient modules. Silicon is more expensive but generally higher efficiency).
The surface area is 1.9 million square metres, which will receive an average of 4 million kWh/day at Anchorage levels of sunlight, or make 0.4 million kWh/day of electricity (ofc, lots more in summer than in winter!)
0.4 million kWh is the energy content of about 2,300 barrels of oil.
However, you must remember that here you’ve accounted for the efficiency of the Solar panels but not the efficiency of the oil. If you burn the oil in a car engine, you’ll average 12-20% efficiency in general (and that’s not accounting for the energy needed to dig up, process & distribute the oil or make the solar panels). Assuming you’re using the oil to drive, it’s equivalent to about 10,000 barrels of oil per day, or 3.65m a year.
that powered a battery or two I think that kept the bus moving.
It didn’t need gas but ran on electricity.
It could run forever on nothing, but electricity.
But the state or city said he couldn’t use it because it had to pass some city code.
Is this true or a urban legend?
That’s an easy one, an electric motor large enough to power a bus requires WAY more amperage than a bus roof full of Solar panels. Even if you could get 20 50amp solar panels on top of a bus, the output would be roughly 1000 amps over 14 hours on a very sunny day. A thousand amp motor would not run a 30,000 pound bus!
Here’s a bunch of solar panels: http://www.wholesalesolar.com/solar-panels.html?source=ask
Notice the low amperage. So lets say we bought the ones for 24 volts and ran two 24 volt batteries in parallel, how far would you be able to power an electric motor that would be powerful enough to run a bus. Remember, the 3 or 4 amp out put is measured over a long summer day. You’d need most of a football field full of panels to have enough power to do this.
It would be nice to go green but it needs to make sense money wise. We have a 1,300 square foot home on the beach home with plenty of sun. Our electric bill is 100 bucks a month give or take. How much will solar panels cost and how many Solar panels will we need to effectively power our home.
You could easily knock 40 percent or more from your power bill by using a manual on off switch on your electric hot water heater and check efficiency of any electric refrigerator and or freezers.
Like you say, your place is on the water, wind power would be the best way to go because of onshore winds which would get you up and running for much less than solar and likely be good 24 / 7 rather than daylight only.
